Navantia Australia has formally opened its Naval Design and Engineering Centre in Melbourne’s Docklands precinct today. Victorian Defence Industry Advocate, Greg Combet AM, together with Navantia’s global chairman Esteban Vilasanchez and Navantia Australia chairman Warren King opened the facility, which will complement Navantia Australia’s Adelaide Operations and Design Centre.

44 highly-skilled Australian engineers and designers have commenced 3D Digital Model courses to develop electricity, structural and outfitting design activities to develop a naval design capability for complex ships. Designers from South Australian companies ASC and Cornell Design, as well as Victorian firm Invenio, will work alongside with Navantia Australia employees as part of the program, which will grow Australian Industrial Capability.

Navantia has selected Adelaide-based Navantia SAGE Automation Group (NSAG) to supply the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for its Future Frigates bid.
