Navantia Australia currently has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer specialising in Diesel and Propulsion to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. The SME Engineer will be responsible for leading engineering projects within the DSC program, specifically focusing on diesel engine systems. This role involves overseeing the design, development, and implementation of diesel engine solutions to meet project requirements. The Senior SME Engineer (Diesel Engines) will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects on time and within budget.

In this role, you will:

• Lead diesel engine engineering projects from concept to completion.
• Develop and implement diesel engine solutions to meet project requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, IT, and customer service.
• Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers.
• Conduct regular project reviews and provide updates to stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.reports.
• Engage in field work to support engineering tasks as required.
• Support Asset Management requirements including Life Cycle Cost investigations, Reliability activities and the Lifecycle Optimisation Cell.
• Manage and coordinate the test and evaluation processes related to platform systems.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering, preferably in the naval/shipbuilding industry.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems and safety engineering requirements.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage time and conduct oneself professionally.

• Australian Citizenship holding or eligible for an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Defence Security Clearance.

Navantia Australia has been awarded the Designer Support Contract to provide comprehensive design and engineering support to all Navantia-designed ships in service with the Royal Australian Navy. This landmark contract marks a significant milestone for Navantia Australia, as it is the company’s first contract held directly with the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA), underscoring its commitment to innovation and excellence in the maritime industry.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Waterfront Field Engineer – specialising in Mechanical systems to join the team out of its Garden Island, Sydney office. The Waterfront Engineer is responsible for providing front-line engineering support to the customer and Navantia team covering issue investigation and problem resolution, design change planning and implementation, commissioning and operations as well as coordination of ongoing maintenance and repairs to assigned combat and communication systems.

Please note: This role requires the person to be onsite 5 days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:

The Mechanical Systems Field Engineer will support maintenance planning, delivery and close out for each Capability Enterprise, including:

• Work effectively across the Field Engineering operations and provide specialist technical advice to the Waterfront Engineering Manager;
• Undertake engineering analysis & investigations related to asset performance & optimisation, maintenance & defect repairs and obsolescence;
• Undertake platform integration (including consideration of whole-of-ship and compartment integration, HVAC, combat systems, electrical, weight, etc) of mechanical systems to the ship platform systems;
• Engage with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) and local supply chain to develop problem resolution and optimisation strategies;
• Engage proactive communication with ship’s staff and SPO with regards to ship issues and defects;
• Analyse and report on merits of engineering change proposals including deviations & waivers;
• Develop Technical Instruction documents & minor engineering changes including quality & safety requirements;
• Oversee shipboard technical assurance activities including test and trials, commissioning & Sea Trials;
• Undertake Pre-refit Condition Assessment trials and reporting;
• Provide support to production related activities covering safety, cost, schedule, quality and technical requirements; and
• Any other activity included in the DSC contract scope for the Waterfront Field Engineering Team.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical);
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a professional engineer;
• Proven skills and experience in an engineering or marine environment working as a technical specialist in a field engineering or systems engineering role;
• Experience in conducting engineering investigations, analysis and writing reports;
• Experience in complex technical engineering projects preferably gained in the Marine or Defence sectors;
• Demonstrated knowledge of working with standards, rules and regulations including Ship Class, Australian, European and US Military standards;
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, produce reports and operate with an eye for detail;
• Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients;
• Strong interpersonal skills;
• Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills;
• Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment; and

Due to Navantia Australia’s ongoing success, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the team out of its Sydney office. Operating under the Design Support Contractor (DSC) contract, you will be responsible for delivering electrical and controls systems for naval ships. Systems responsibility includes:

• Electrical Plant – Electric Motors, Generators.
• Electric Cabling, Connections and Cable Installation Systems.
• Power Distribution Systems, Protection Devices and Switchboards.
• Power Conversion Equipment and Batteries.
• Ships Lighting System.
• Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS)
• Alarm Systems and Warning Systems

Your responsibilities will include:

• Provide high level of electrical engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge.
• Complete electrical and control systems design for naval ship systems, applying robust systems engineering process.
• Undertake technical investigations, root cause analysis and solution identification.
• Create engineering designs to integrate platform electrical and control systems into naval vessels.
• Deliver technical reports and technical documentation in accordance with established Navantia and customer standards.
• Work effectively within the broader Navantia Engineering Team to engage with different engineering disciplines in the development of new naval ship system designs.
• Plan and coordinate assigned engineering projects from concept through to delivery, including the development of project plans, schedule and engagement of internal and external stakeholders.
• Participate in the design coordination meetings with the rest of the Engineering Team members.
• Participate in Design Review meetings with the Client.
• Liaison with Clients (internal & external) and subcontractors.
• Requirement’s analysis and verification development.
• Provide mentoring and support to junior engineers, as applicable.
• Project Management, including management of task schedule, resourcing, budget and progress monitoring and reporting.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

• Bachelor’s degree ‐ Engineering (Electrical)
• Proven skills and experience in a electrical engineering function.
• Experience in a technical and industrial Defence environment.
• Experience with electrical and control systems on a naval ship platform, including with medium voltage power design and analysis up to 440VAC.
• Proven ability to produce clear and well‐presented reports to a suitable quality and standard.

• Experience working with technical shipbuilding regulations (Classification Society and IMO requirements).
