Navantia Australia Number 32 in Top 40 Defence Contractors 2019
Navantia Australia successfully combines design and construction heritage with a deep engineering knowledge of the platform, interconnected systems and equipment, many of which we are the Original Equipment Manufacturer, including the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), diesel engines and generator sets.
Navantia is the designer of the Hobart class Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG), Canberra class Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) and their landing craft (LLC), and the designer and builder of the new Supply class Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment ships (AOR).
Navantia Australia is providing ongoing support to the Royal Australian Navy and Defence with through-life support services as part of the following programs:
- SEA 4000 Phase 3 through the provision of Shipyard Management Services for the AWD
- DDG Transition Support Program as Platform Systems Designer
- SEA 1654 Phase 3 Maritime Operational Support Capability as designer and prime contractor
- AOR SPO In Service Support Contractor for sustainment services
- LHD ACPC providing Engineering Services
Leveraging off our pedigree in Platform System Design and Integration, it is through these programs that Navantia Australia provides the Royal Australian Navy with the assurance in its materiel seaworthiness and the confidence that the activities by which the material is designed, constructed, updated, upgraded and upkept, will deliver leading edge capability, lethality safely, as required, when required.
Navantia Australia declared an annual turnover of $88,000,000 for defence related business in Australia and New Zealand for 2019, with $51,000,000 made up of Australian Industry Content. Defence related exports totalled $2,000,000, providing Australian companies with opportunities within Navantia’s global supply chain.
Navantia Australia’s fulltime workforce at time of submission was 104 people. This figure has already increased to 130 by 31 December 2019 with 20% of employees female. Due to continued growth, we anticipate that our local workforce will have grown to 150 people Australia wide by the end of 2020.
Our Memorandum of Understanding signed with JLB-Yaran is part of our Reconciliation Action Plan. The benefits of this newly formed relationship is supporting the growth of Navantia’s workforce and highlights both Navantia Australia and defence industry as an attractive career opportunity for Indigenous Australians.
Navantia Australia maintains the full breadth of engineering capability, including naval architecture, structural engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, combat system integration and Integrated Logistics Support. Future areas of interest include SEA 4000 Phase 6, SEA 2048 Phase 6, Land 8710, and acquisition and sustainment opportunities presented in the New Zealand Capability Plan. Navantia is also continuing to develop innovative digital sustainment solutions, fueled by emerging technologies, for our fully integrated and deployable logistics systems. These enable effective and intelligent asset management and optimised whole of life cost across all phases of the capability life cycle with the aim of reducing redundancies and maintenance costs to the customer and keeping Navy able to fight and win at sea.
