Navantia Australia Inspires Sydney Students to Explore Maritime Careers
Sydney, Australia,

Navantia Australia welcomed more than 160 Year 7 to Year 10 students from high schools across Sydney to its Darling Park office for Deep Dive into Discovery, an immersive program introducing young people to careers in engineering, technology, Defence and the maritime sector.
Developed and delivered by Navantia Australia, the program combined interactive workshops, technology demonstrations and discussions with industry professionals. Invited representatives from the Royal Australian Navy and ADF Careers also shared insights into military and Defence-related career pathways.
The experience included a visit to the Royal Australian Navy Pavilion at the Australian National Maritime Museum, connecting the Navy’s history and achievements with the skills and ideas needed to support Australia’s maritime future.

As 2026 marks 125 years since the formation of Australia’s Navy, Deep Dive into Discovery formed part of Navantia Australia’s contribution to commemorating this milestone and investing in the next generation of maritime professionals.
Navantia Australia Chief Business Development Officer Cindy Slaven said the program helped young people connect classroom learning with meaningful careers.
“Deep Dive into Discovery gives students a firsthand look at the opportunities available across the Defence and maritime sectors.
“By engaging students as they begin considering future studies and careers, we hope to spark curiosity and show how STEM skills can contribute to Australia’s national security and maritime capability,” Mrs Slaven said.
Students also learned about Navantia Australia’s work supporting the Royal Australian Navy, including ship design, systems integration, sustainment and digital technologies.

Israel Lozano, Managing Director of Navantia Australia, said early engagement was critical to developing Australia’s future workforce.
“Australia’s future Defence capability relies on a highly skilled and innovative workforce. Programs such as Deep Dive into Discovery helps students to understand from an early age how they can contribute to projects of national importance.” Mr Lozano said.
By opening its doors to students from across Sydney, Navantia Australia helped build awareness of the people, skills and innovation needed to underpin Australia’s sovereign Defence capability.
