2023 Internship Ship Walk

Our interns recently had the opportunity to tour HMAS Adelaide and HMAS Supply, some of the Royal Australian Navy’s largest and most capable platforms as part of their internship ship walk.

“Visiting the ships was an incredible experience,” says Combat Systems Integration Engineering Intern, Michael Currington. “The size and complexity of the ships is impressive, and the amount of equipment and detail that goes into keeping these ships operational is crazy.”

As part of his internship at Navantia Australia, Michael had the opportunity to work alongside a team of highly experienced engineers to develop smarter systems integration solutions for the Royal Australian Navy. Michael had the opportunity to work on real-world engineering projects, such as analysing and optimising systems throughout the LHD platforms.

Michael’s experience helped him develop a new appreciated for systems engineering and cross-field engineering projects. “I was really amazed by the Integrated Platform Management System that allows users to see the status of any piece of equipment located anywhere on the ship.”

At Navantia Australia, developing the future workforce of Australia’s sovereign naval shipbuilding and sustainment industry and fostering the careers of tomorrow’s mechanical engineers is part of our promise to deliver capability.
