Dylan Dwyer Wins AIDN Victoria Young Achiever of the Year

We are thrilled to announce that the 2022 Australian Industry & Defence Network Victoria (AIDN VIC) Young Achiever of the Year is our very own naval architect, Dylan Dwyer. Dylan’s win was announced at the AIDN Victoria Black Tie Dinner held in Melbourne.

The AIDN Young Achiever of the Year program recognizes driven and talented young professionals working in defence industry as potential future leaders. As winner for Victoria, Dylan will now compete against other state and territory finalists for the Australian Industry & Defence Network (AIDN National) Young Achiever of the Year award.

Graduating with first-class honours from the Australian Maritime College in 2016, and also completing a Masters Degree in Systems Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Dylan has had great success both academically and in in the workforce.

Dylan joined Navantia Australia in 2021 as a Naval Architect and is an integral member of our Design and Engineering team. He works on ship sustainment activities, designing and implementing critical engineering changes to ensure Navantia ships have the best capability available for the Royal Australian Navy. Dylan also lead the naval architecture design and performance development of our Littoral Manoeuvre Vessel – Medium concept for the Maj’s LAND 8710 Phase 1 program.

This LMV-M design was a bespoke, clean sheet design whereby every design decision was made to maximise the design’s requirements compliance. Dylan’s contribution to the LMV-M design was significant: helping design the hull form, general arrangement, conducting critical performance simulations, managing external parties to support performance assessments with simulations and experimental testing, and writing quality tender supporting documentation.

Everything Dylan works on contributes significantly to the Defence industry profession. Whether that is designing ships for early CLC Defence acquisitions or sustaining Navantia ships once they are in-service. These are only early days in Dylan’s career as part of Australia’s naval shipbuilding and sustainment industry.

Congratulations Dylan and well deserved!
