Navantia Australia Smart Sustainment Manager, Dr González Cantos, receives silver commendation from Department of Defence.

We are proud to announce that Navantia Australia Smart Sustainment Manager, Dr Alberto González Cantos, received a Silver Commendation from the Capability Acquisition Sustainment Group (CASG) for his meaningful contributions to resolving technical challenges experienced by HMAS Adelaide during Operation (OP) Tonga Assist.

The Commendation was presented to Dr Alberto González Cantos by Rear Admiral Steve Tiffen, AM, CSM, RAN, Head of Maritime Systems, of the Department of Defence’s National Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group, at a ceremony at Garden Island Defence Precinct, Sydney on Wednesday 7 December 2022.

As an Electronic and Industrial Automation Engineer, Alberto displayed outstanding engineering and technical skills in resolving issues and allowing the vessel to return to service. Alberto is commended for working closely alongside key stakeholders such as the Royal Australian Navy, CASG, and other industry partners, and enabling OP Tonga Assist to achieve mission success.

Additionally, Alberto’s contribution allowed the Amphibious Combat and Sealift System Program Office to provide urgent engineering solutions efficiently, and in doing so, delivered outstanding results to achieve impressive outcomes.

Alberto’s embracing of the values of the Australian Defence Force and his extraordinary support is now considered the benchmark by the enterprise and as an inspiration for others to emulate.
