NAVAL SUPPORT SHIPS - UK PROGRAM

British-led Team Resolute, comprising BMT, Harland & Wolff and Navantia UK, has been appointed as the preferred bidder to deliver three crucial support ships to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA). The £1.6 billion contract (before inflation) to manufacture the vessels providing munitions, stores and provisions to the Royal Navy’s aircraft carriers, destroyers and frigates deployed at sea, is subject to HM Treasury and Ministerial approval. Team Resolute will be making a significant investment into the UK and help to level up UK Government defence spend across the whole Union. We will create high quality UK jobs, apprenticeships and four facilities across the UK which will have shipbuilding capabilities fit for the 21st century.

Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, presides over steel cutting of new F-110 Frigate for Spanish Navy

The cutting of the first steel plate has taken place 6th of April in Navantia’s shipyard in Ferrol (A Coruña, Spain), where all five F-110 class frigates will be built. The event was also attended by Spanish Vice Prime Minister for Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz; Finance Minister María Jesús Montero, along with Navantia’s Chairman, Ricardo Domínguez; VP for Shipbuilding, Agustín Álvarez; VP for Systems and Services, Donato Martínez, and Ferrol shipyard's director, Eduardo Dobarro, among other authorities.

HMAS Canberra receives satellite communications upgrade

Navantia Australia has supported the Royal Australian Navy and the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ACPC Enterprise to design, integrate and install a new Tri-Band INMARSAT GX and X/Ka-band WGS Satellite Communications (SATCOM) system on HMAS Canberra. The change was completed in record time. The increase in deployed bandwidth available to the Canberra Class LHDs will better support crew conditions and Quality of Life functions while at sea. The additional SATCOM capability will give the LHD significant additional bandwidth in terms of digital connectivity, including voice, video, social media, internet access and personal communications to enable both the permanent and embarked forces to stay connected with friends and family.
