Navantia Australia has a culture of innovation and development. We are not only committed to developing an autonomous ship design capability in Australia, but also to developing the future of maritime and naval technologies. From the development of predictive maintenance tools, to leveraging emerging AI technologies and autonomous systems, we are evolving with the changing times to help Australia stay ahead of the curve.

Navantia Australia is developing an end-to-end sovereign naval ship design capacity. Understanding the underlying design of a product leads to greater efficiency across, project management and integration, mission system integration, building strategy, planning, supply chain management and test and activation activities managed more efficiently having the product knowledge.

As a leader in shipbuilding and maritime solutions, Navantia Australia is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of naval innovation. We have a commitment to developing advanced systems and technologies that enhance the capabilities, efficiency, and sustainability of the modern naval industry. Navantia Australia is committed to dynamic change and improvement and where possible we seek new equipment and processes to deliver improvements in cost, quality, efficiency, performance, including environmental performance, and obsolescence.

Cooperation with universities is a core element of Navantia Australia’s work to develop new skills and technologies. An International Cooperation Agreement between Spanish and Australian universities developing PhDs in new technologies will bring synergies between Navantia and academia.

Navantia Australia, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and the Australian Maritime College (AMC) – University of Tasmania (UTAS), have partnered to fund PhD scholarships to explore, assess and facilitate the development of solutions for engineering challenges and through life-support and future capabilities for the Australian Navy.

Marintec – the Maritime Institute of Technology is an industry-led joint research institute established by Navantia Australia and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The Institute aims to develop digital technologies for the maritime industry and is setting a new standard for industry-university partnerships.

The collaborative R&D activities of Marintec are focused on delivering advanced technologies that are beneficial to the Royal Australian Navy and the wider industry. Navantia Australia’s investment commitment is being allocated towards several areas of collaborative research and development, focusing on advanced software engineering, UX digital expertise, game design, and AI.
